Rangers
Mission Statement

The Rangers patrol by cruiser, foot, horseback and bike, making them available to visitors in all areas of the parks.

The Rangers are state certified peace officers, trained for emergency response, investigation and reporting. They enforce federal and state laws as well as Park District bylaws and regulations.

All emergencies should be reported immediately by calling 911. If you are in need of other assistance, contact the Rangers through the Hamilton County Communication Center at (513) 825-2280.

Everything in the parks is protected; collection of wildlife and plants is not allowed. The posted speed limit of 25 miles per hour is strictly enforced, and alcohol is not permitted in the parks except in reserved areas.

Rangers - Employment Opportunities

For consideration as a part-time Ranger with the Hamilton County Park District Ranger Department, applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications:

  • Basic Peace Officer Certification from Ohio or currently enrolled in the Ohio Basic Peace Officer Training Academy. Certification must be transferable to Ohio.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Minimum age of 21 years.
  • State Motor Vehicle Operator's License that meets Hamilton County Park District current carrirer guidelines.
  • No felony or domestic violence convictions.

Preferred qualifications include any formal or informal education or experience in Natural Resources, Parks and Recreation or related field.

And successfully complete the following if accepted for consideration:

  • Oral interview.
  • Background investigation.
  • Fitness assessment.
  • Medical examination (at applicant’s expense).
  • Voice stress analysis.
  • Psychological examination.

Qualified candidates are evaluated for employment as a full-time Ranger through a competitive selection process. This process is advertised in local newspapers and other publications. To be eligible to participate in the selection process, candidates must possess the following minimum qualifications:

  • Basic Peace Officer Certification from Ohio or currently enrolled in the Ohio Basic Peace Officer Training Academy. Certification must be transferable to Ohio.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Minimum age of 21 years.
  • State Motor Vehicle Operator's License that meets Hamilton County Park District current carrirer guidelines.
  • No felony or domestic violence convictions.
  • Associates degree or three years patrol experience in law enforcement.

Preferred qualifications include any formal or informal education or experience in Natural Resources, Parks and Recreation or related field.

And successfully complete the following if accepted for consideration:

  • Oral interview.
  • Background investigation.
  • Fitness assessment.
  • Medical examination (at applicant’s expense).
  • Voice stress analysis.
  • Psychological examination.
Applications for part-time positions are accepted year-round. Full-time applications are available during job posting time frame at all Park District Visitor Centers, boathouses, golf courses and online here.
