Pet Policy

  • Pets must remain on a leash, maximum six feet in length, kept under physical control and not be a nuisance to other park users.
  • Pet owners are required to remove their pet’s fecal deposits from the park grounds and place their waste in a suitable receptacle.
  • Pooper scooper dispensers are located at each trail head and are available from the Park District Rangers.

Nature Trails

  • The Park District has 15 nature trails that take the hiker on mini-journeys where they can observe natural habitats and the diverse wildlife that reside within them.
  • Please stay on the trails and do not disturb plants and wildlife.
  • Dispose of trash in the proper receptacles.
  • Bicycles are not permitted on nature trails.

Multi-use Trails

  • The Shaker Trace Trail at Miami Whitewater Forest has a 1.2 mile inner loop with 18 fully accessible Parcours fitness stations and an extended 7.8 mile outer loop which weaves through this beautiful park.
    • Shaker Trace has two loops – a short 1.2 mile inner loop and the extended, 7.-8 mile outer loop. Both begin and end at the Harbor. The entire trail is paved and gently graded with distances marked along the trail at every .2 miles. Along the way, you’ll see restored wetlands and prairie, as well as creek beds and farmland. During the warmer months, a Ranger “courtesy cart” patrols the trail with cold water for thirsty trail users.
  • There are paved Multi-use trails at Sharon Woods, Francis RecreAcres and Winton Woods.
  • Bikes can be rented at the Sharon Woods and Miami Whitewater Forest boathouses.

Parcours Fitness Trails

  • All Parcours Fitness Trails have workout stations that exercise each of the major muscle groups.
  • Parcours Fitness Trails can found in Embshoff Woods, Sharon Woods, Triple Creek, Winton Woods and Woodland Mound, along with two at Miami Whitewater Forest.

Horse Trails

  • A linear horse trail begins and ends at the Winton Woods Riding Center. One way, it measures 2.6 miles.
  • Shaker Trace Horse Trail at Miami Whitewater Forest is open; this circular trail is 7.2 miles.
  • Miami Whitewater Forest has three other Wooded Horse Trails. All three horse trails are now open. Parking for the Wooded Horse Trail Loops is located off West Road beyond the Bluebird Shelter.
