Looking for a new activity this summer? Why not try lawn bowling! The Hamilton County Park District has partnered with the Cincinnati Lawn Bowling Club and the Anderson Township Park District to offer a Lawn Bowling League at the Little Miami Golf Center in Newtown.
Lawn Bowling is suitable for all ages and can be played with two people or two teams. It is very unique, but has some similarities of Curling and Bocce. The object of the game is to roll resin balls, or “bowls”, on a flat grass green and try to get closest to the target ball, which is a small white ball called a "jack". The person who rolls their bowl closest to the jack scores a point.
The Lawn Bowling League will be seven weeks, with the first week being instruction, orientation and practice with the Cincinnati Lawn Bowling Club. Leagues will be held on Mondays, June 6 through July 25 (except for July 4) at 6:30 p.m. at the Little Miami Golf Center located at 3811 Newtown Road. Cost is $60.00 per team.
Those interested can sign up at www.andersonparks.com or call the Anderson Township Park District at (513) 388-4514.
The Cincinnati Lawn Bowling Club meets and plays 3 times/week: Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings, May through October. One can just drop by to watch and/or participate any of those times. If you wish to have a group outing (large or small), they'll be happy to work with you. Just contact them through their web site, www.lawnbowling.org.
A valid Hamilton County Park District Motor Vehicle Permit ($10.00 annual, $3.00 daily) is required to enter the parks.
