Volunteer Needs

Preservation
Volunteers contribute greatly to the Park District's founding principle of preserving natural resources here in Hamilton County. Volunteers walk the park elderly men and women on a hikeboundaries to check for possible encroachments. They conduct water quality surveys of park creeks and lakes. Many volunteers enjoy sharing their green thumbs by helping to maintain gardens and landscape beds throughout the parks.

Recreation
VIPs serve as spotters and divot replacers. Volunteers who are experienced golfers themselves can help our staff of PGA golf professionals conduct clinics, camps and lessons for junior golfers.

Many Volunteers enjoy meeting new people and working at large special events. The Park District relies on Volunteers to greet visitors, distribute literature and help with crafts and other event activities.

Education
In July, 2004, the Hamilton County Park District opened a very special place, the Highfield Discovery Garden. This is the only large-scale children’s garden in the region and is designed to teach little people about nature while encouraging reading through interactive play. Volunteers are needed to monitor activity in the garden, to help the Naturalists with programs, answer visitors' questions and assist in the gift store.

The Visitor Centers are the hub of activity at the larger parks. Volunteers are needed to greet visitors and answer their questions. Volunteers also assist visitors with purchases at the gift stores located within the Visitor Centers. Volunteers may also be asked to help the Naturalists with clerical duties such as filing and database work, depending upon the individual Volunteer's familiarity with computer programs.

The Wedding Setting
This lovely outdoor backdrop with accompanying Highwood Lodge can be reserved for small weddings and receptions. The Wedding Setting serves as the Volunteers-In-Parks primary fund-raiser. Volunteers are needed to facilitate viewings for prospective brides and grooms as well as open, monitor and close the Wedding Setting for weddings and receptions. The Wedding Setting is located at Withrow Nature Preserve in Anderson Township.
